March 01 2008 kicked off the Saquish rowing season with the annual 28th Snow Row in Hull . Saquish rowers played host to the visiting rowers from Cornwall England. Our men's team rowing in the Mike Jenness Sr. gave the visiting Cornish mixed team rowing in the Saquish a run for their money by placing 2nd in the men's professional Gig event with a time of 34 minutes.11 seconds with the Saquish men having a second place win with an amazing take over of the Belfast Maine Team at the finish line. The Cornish mixed team had a impressive time of 32 minutes and 32 seconds which was 17 seconds faster than last year, and as usual coming in first place in the Gig division. Our women's team rowing in the Interceptor held onto the trophy for the 4th consecutive year with a 1st place win. With a woman's team having the best time of 35 minutes and 57 seconds, being the first all woman's team over the finish line, they shaved 4 minutes and 44 seconds off last years time. The Cornish women's team was unable to make it this year to compete. Our mixed coxed four team rowing in the W.G.Tucker came in with a time of 45 minutes and 02 seconds which was very impressive having two new novice rowers. A job well done!!!! The two man crew in the Burrage with rowers Burt Jenness and Mark Porcart won the work boat class with a time of 53 minutes 21 seconds. Which was 7 minutes 24 seconds faster than last year. In closing one of the most impressive times again was by Cornish rower Beverly Davis rowing alone in the Livery single, finishing in 47 minutes 01 seconds 8 minutes 1 second faster than last year.
Congratulations to all for a job well done.
As you will see in some of the pictures you will notice that when the crews come over the finish line they toss or hold up the oars in a traditional salute to the finishing teams

Congratulations and good luck to our ladies Team going to the Isles of Scilly
They will be leaving April 30th to compete with hundreds of professional rowers from Europe. The ladies along with a few of the Gents have been training sometimes more than 4 days a week for the past couple of months to prepare for this challenging event.
They will also be exchanging some ideas to bring back across the pond so that Saquish Rowing will be able to expand on plans to bring in more disadvantaged youth rowing and rowing for handicapped individuals along with the usual events we participate in.
The Isle of Scilly is an island off the southwestern tip of Great Britain.
Good luck, Gods speed and safe passage to our representatives and first ladies team to participate in the event,
Hilary Moll, Karen Kaczorowski, Jessica Rowcroft-McKenna, Beth Howard, Michelle Hughes and Mary Patrice Ruocco.
Also the same to two of our men rowers going over to participate rowing with our English friends, Tony Ruocco and Sterling Wall; I'm sure they will make us all proud and as always display the good sportsmanship we are known for. GOOD LUCK!
